This intensive course provides the foundation for: Understanding and appreciating GIS, What it can do, How others are using it in Humanitarian response (plan missions, mobilize and implement field teams and monitor and evaluate their effectiveness in real time).
Participants shall learn the basic functions of a GIS, GIS Terminology, and why GIS is powerful tool for data analysis, retrieval and visualization, Create maps, query a GIS database, and perform spatial analysis.
By the end of the training, participants can use their data to create maps, perform analysis, share information with their audience (colleagues, donors, government, non-GIS users etc)

This course is for those who are new to geographic information systems (GIS) and wish to learn what GIS is and how one can use it in their area of specialization.
